Goldenrod's latin name is Solidago, which means “to make whole or heal” and reflects its use in traditional herbal medicine. It is most commonly used to reduce inflammation and to treat urinary tract infections. Goldenrod grows in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. It flourishes in roadside ditches and fields and is often considered a weed. Goldenrod is a powerful diurectic and can help to dislodge renal deposits that might otherwise develop into kidney stones and remove other potentially harmful microorganisms. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the kidneys do more than regulate the body's fluids; they also keep the opposing forces of yin and yang in balance and store the life force energy known as jing, which declines as we get older.
