About C60

What is C60

C60, or Carbon 60, is a spherical molecule composed of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a pattern resembling a geodesic dome. This structure is known as a fullerene or Buckminsterfullerene, named after Buckminster Fuller.

History & Discovery

C60 was discovered in 1985 by researchers Harold Kroto, Robert Curl, and Richard Smalley, who received the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for this work.

Origin & Manufacturing
