Cosmos Healing's C60 is a potent antioxidant which acts like a free-radical sponge by removing oxidative stress from the body at a cellular level. This assists in disease prevention as oxidative stress is the primary cause of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer.

C60 may also optimise mitochondrial function by enhancing energy production in the cells. Most individuals experience an increase in energy and mental clarity after consuming C60 on a daily basis for 30 days or more.

Potential Benefits

  • Disease Prevention - C60 is a powerful antioxidant which can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can cause cellular damage and contribute to the development of various diseases. C60 has been shown to be an extremely potent antioxidant, with some research suggesting that it may be significantly more effective than other well-known antioxidants, such as vitamin C and vitamin E.
  • Lifespan Extension - research with rats showed that oral administration of C60 at reiterated doses almost doubled their lifespan.
  • Increased Energy, Stamina & Libido - some studies suggest that C60 may help to increase energy production in cells. This can lead to increased stamina, endurance, and overall energy levels, making it a great supplement for athletes and active individuals.
  • Anti-inflammatory & Immune Support - chronic Inflammation can contribute to the development of various diseases. C60 may help to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the activity of certain enzymes and signaling molecules involved in the inflammatory response. This can be especially beneficial for conditions such as arthritis, which are characterised by chronic inflammation.
  • Supports Mental Clarity & Focus - research suggests that C60 may help to protect brain cells from damage caused by oxidative stress, leading to improved memory, focus, and overall cognitive function.
  • Stronger Bones and Cartilage - osteoporosis is a disease that commonly affects people as they age, resulting in weaker bones and increased fracture risk. Research suggests that using C60 products may help strengthen cartilage and bone and guard against bone density loss.

About C60

What is C60

C60 (short for Carbon 60) is a molecule consisting of 60 carbon atoms, arranged as 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons, with a shape similar to that of a soccer ball.

The C60 molecule is called a fullerene. More specifically, a Buckminsterfullerene, or “buckyballs” for short.

The name comes from scientist and architect Buckminster Fuller who often used geodesic domes (like you might see at a botanical garden) in his building designs. These domes resembled the newly discovered molecules so the molecule was named in his honor.

The History of C60

The C60 molecule was discovered by Harold Kroto, James Heath, Sean O'Brien, Robert Curl, and Richard Smalley in 1985. The team was inspired to use a laser on graphite to generate fullerenes by the work of astrophysicists who were studying the infrared emissions of giant red carbon stars. Three of these scientists, Robert Curl, Harold Kroto, and Richard Smalley, were awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1996.

Where does C60 come from?

An unusual carbon-rich rock believed to be more than 600 million years old has yielded the first evidence that fullerenes occur in nature.

The fullerenes C60 and C70 were discovered in a sample of shungite, a rock of uncertain origin found near the Russian town of Shunga, about 250 miles northeast of St. Petersburg.

The serendipitous discovery was made by geochemist Peter R. Buseck and mineralogist Semeon J. Tsipursky, both of Arizona State University, Tempe, and mass specrrometrist Robert Hettich of Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.

The discovery means fullerenes can no longer be thought of as purely artificial materials made in the lab using laser vaporization, carbon arcs, or combustion processes.

How Is C60 Manufactured?

Because naturally occurring C60 is found only in small quantities, Carbon 60 used to produce supplements, such as C60 in distilled water, is manufactured in a lab. Synthesized Carbon 60 is produced by laser ablation of graphite or pyrolysis of aromatic hydrocarbons. Organic solvents and a Soxhlet extractor are then used to extract fullerenes from the soot produced by this process. The solution extracted through this process may be composed of up to 75% C60. It also contains other types of fullerenes. The Carbon 60 is separated from the rest of the solution using chromatography. The fullerenes are then dissolved in a hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon and separated with alumina columns, after which the solvents are fully evaporated to produce C60 powders that are as pure as 99.9% and higher.
